In 1972 a Corporation was formed under the name Kirkhill Aircraft Parts Company and became known as KAPCO. The company started with a license agreement with McDonnell-Douglas to distribute about 600 proprietary spare parts. Sales were a little less than $600,000 the first year.
In 1974, Lockheed came on board. As we started to grow, we leased a small 11,000 square foot office in LaHabra, California. KAPCO bought its first computer and began to experience a growth rate for the next 10 years of about 25% — 30%. In January 1981 we relocated to Brea, California.
KAPCO has since become an authorized supplier of The Boeing Company and Lockheed. We established a licensee agreement with Honeywell-HPG in July of 2000. KAPCO has become a major supplier to the airline industry for elastomeric seals, and other products. We are also an authorized distributor for Flexfab, Electrofilm, J.C. Carter and Stukerjurgen Aerospace, to name a few.
In 2001 we acquired Ball Glide, a machine shop, to enhance our manufacturing capabilities. Ball Glide provides high quality precision products from small intricate parts to large complex products. Ball Glide is highly specialized in multi-axis milling and turning and turnkey services, supported by exceptional project management to assure timely completion and delivery.
On December 14th, 2001, we broke ground for our new 100,000 square foot facility that will increase our warehouse capacity and efficiency. This state-of-the-art facility is the cornerstone for becoming a world class supply chain solution to our customer base.
On September 01, 2003, KAPCO acquired Valtec Aircraft Supply. Founded in 1972, Valtec Aircraft Supply is a stocking distributor that supports the commercial airlines and independent repair facilities worldwide with a broad range of expendable, replacement sealing and clamp products. It has earned a dominant position in this industry as a result of specialization, and is one of the world's largest suppliers of aircraft seals. Valtec provides high-quality parts at competitive pricing while consistently meeting customer delivery expectations.
In 2006 we started to integrate KAPCO and Valtec to a common business model. By combining our strengths in Supply-Chain Management with warehouses in Brea, CA and in Essex, CT, we are able to provide customers more comprehensive product availability from one source. The result is a simplified supply chain solution for our customers worldwide.
We are now known as KAPCO|VALTEC.
